Hatred will not rule our country.

We will not allow hatred to rule our country.

At a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, one counter protester lost her life and countless others were injured and brutally attacked. Three months ago, Oregon experienced a horrific set of murders and injuries motivated by hate on a Portland MAX train. These are wake-up calls to a problem that has gone on for far too long – but the president is choosing to ignore them.

Donald Trump said there were "many sides" to blame for the violence in Charlottesville, but the people of Oregon know that there are not. There is the "side" that allows hatred, bigotry, and violence to go unchecked, and there is the "side" that works for racial justice, equity, and finding common ground.

Let’s stand on the right side of history together and challenge acts of bigotry and intolerance in our community. That’s why I will continue to do everything in my power as Oregon’s Attorney General to protect those who are marching and speaking out against hate.

Tolerance and lawfulness will prevail if we all stand together in the face of evil. Together, our powerful voices for peace and justice can drown out those that fight for hatred and division.
