Women

Want to hear a pretty wonderful – and true – fact?

During the last year across our nation 26,000 women are considering running for office. The previous year the number was 900.

And to that I say bravo.

But I also say, here in Oregon, women running for office is not exactly headline news. Rather, it's business as usual.

A few numbers:

Oregon is one of six states with a woman governor.

One of nine states with a woman attorney general.

Five out of eight of our state legislative leaders are women, including the Speaker of the House.

Oregon ranks among the top 10 states for the proportion of women to men in our state legislature.

And in city halls, council chambers, and school boards across our great state women are represented in record numbers.

Oregonians have a proud history of electing women. I'm especially proud to be Oregon's first woman Attorney General. And we must help even more women become the first. The first in her family to go to college. The first to seek public office. The first to win. Because without firsts – we won't have seconds or thirds!

Pitch in $7 to help keep Oregon at the forefront of women's rights and representation.
