Huge victories in Oregon's Legislative session

Friends, I have major news from Oregon's legislature as the legislative session adjourns: three of my priority bills have passed and are on their way to being signed into law!

The victories? They're pretty big:

House Bill 4145 closes the "intimate partner loopholeā€¯ under which abusers and stalkers are still allowed to own firearms. This is a major victory for public health and safety. We can only hope this action inspires more action, both here at home and nationally, because, when it comes to America's gun laws, our system is broken.

House Bill 4155 is Oregon's net neutrality law. While the Trump administration wants to gut net neutrality and drop protections that ensure a free and open internet, here in Oregon, we're doing our part to fight back. The Oregon plan will preserve a chunk of net neutrality at the state level by prohibiting state agencies from signing contracts with internet service providers that do not agree to net neutrality rules.

Senate Bill 1551 would make Oregon's data breach laws even stronger. In the wake of the massive Equifax scandal, where the private data of upwards of 1.7 million Oregonians was compromised, we're implementing stricter rules about reporting timelines and cracking down on credit monitoring companies taking advantage of affected consumers.

House Bill 4134 creates a legal process for removing racially-discriminatory language from property titles, taking a further step toward equality in housing. The bill also further codifies that planned communities may not be created in ways that restrict use in discriminatory ways.

I am proud to have supported each of these critical pieces of legislation. Oregonians will be much better off as they become law.

Now it's time to take the next step. Join me and let's create a movement for big progressive victories in every corner of America.
