The next frontier in gun violence

We are experiencing a serious nationwide epidemic of gun violence. As Oregon's Attorney General looking out for the safety of our residents, I am committed to doing everything I can to help stop it. Though it's been tough, especially with the constant barrage of attacks by the NRA, we have had some real successes.

THE LATEST VICTORY: Last week a federal judge in Washington state granted our request for a temporary restraining order that will — at least temporarily — thwart plans agreed to by the U.S. State Department for the publication of online "how-to" instructions for printing 3D guns.

Yes, you heard that right. These are real guns, made of plastic, in a 3D printer! It's the newest dangerous frontier.

The Trump administration, under the watch of its allies at the NRA, is all too happy to throw safety to the wind and flood the streets with firearms — even plastic ones with no serial numbers and totally untraceable, that can be easily made in a printer.

The next steps are critical.

Congress must take up this issue immediately, as must each state legislature.

Here at home, I will work closely with our leaders — we are already rolling up our sleeves to ensure 3D guns are illegal. Nationally, I am joining lawsuits like this one with my fellow Attorneys General to protect Oregonians. It's about public safety — plain and simple!
