Undetectable. But just as deadly.

Last week, I testified before the Oregon Senate Judiciary Committee in support of strong gun safety laws.

In Oregon, we have laws on the books which ensure that only responsible gun owners who are not disqualified by felony convictions, incidents of domestic violence, and other listed factors are able to purchase a firearm under Oregon law.

This vitally important system can be effectively circumvented, however, through "ghost guns" – that are extremely easy to make.

As the presence of these untraceable guns grows, so does my concern for the safety of Oregonians. That's why I'm putting my support behind this proposed bill, which would require all individuals who want to make 3-D printed guns or build a gun from parts purchased online, to pass a background check as well as have their guns inscribed with a serial number. This bill also enhances expectations of safety by outlawing the possession of any firearm built to avoid metal detectors.

These are important and common sense protections that will enhance our public safety.

Last year, I successfully sued the U.S. Department of State to block the Trump administration from releasing 3-D printed gun tutorials to be made available online.

You can rest assured that I won't stop until Oregonians lives are safe.
