Victim Advocacy

  • In 2015 Ellen advocated House Bill 3476, which provides stronger confidentiality laws for survivors of campus sexual assault.The has made Oregon’s confidentiality laws for survivors one of the strongest in the nation.

  • In 2015 Ellen advocated for Senate Bill 525, which prevents convicted domestic abusers and anyone who has a restraining order against them from possessing guns. The bill, aimed at addressing the clear connection between gun violence and domestic abuse, passed and was signed that month.

  • Ellen advocated for House Bill 2317, which was signed into law in June 2015. The law extends the statute of limitations for rape charges from six years to 12, empowering more survivors to seek justice.

  • Ellen introduced Senate Bill 188, which was signed into law in June 2016. The law outlawed revenge porn. Victims previously had no protections or recourse.

Ellen renamed the Crime Victims’ Services Division to add “survivor” to its name, now the Crime Victim and Survivor Services Division, and in April 2018 announced that 31 new grants totaling $9.1 million would be funded to expand victim and survivor services across Oregon.

Now, as our Attorney General, she's standing up for the most vulnerable Oregonians, our seniors and diverse communities, small businesses, and all the people of Oregon.
